Learning English in the UK

How do I get into the UK?

You will need to do a lot of planning if you want to go to London or Oxford to learn English. First, of course, you will have to know the laws and procedures in your country for obtaining the proper documents to travel. Assuming you are able to obtain a passport and make the appropriate arrangements to satisfy your nation’s requirements, then you need to know what the requirements are to come into London, or into the United Kingdom.

You must first know whether or not you will need a visa to enter the UK, and if so what the requirements are to be granted one. You can check out this information on www.ukvisas.gov. under the general information section. The UK runs visa application centres overseas, and there may be one in your county. Or you may be able to apply online. Be aware that you will have to provide and appropriate photo of yourself, take a ten finger scan, and you may have to register with the police department, or provide evidence that you do not have tuberculosis. If you are going to the UK to learn English, then you might try to obtain a visa to be a student or a student visitor, depending on how long you plan to stay. The current information on student visas and the points based system is available on the UK Border Agency website:

This website also tells how much a visa will cost, depending on whether you are already in the UK and applying, or if you are outside of the UK
